2021 in Review and Looking Forward

Newly-painted models of 2021 Hobby progress was largely successful in 2021 with a huge focus on repainting old Orks into the new scheme.  Album for fully painted models of 2021: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CPwtmvia5UQLguka8 Album for repainted models of 2021:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/WxGgtThxS7M6bdmp6 By the numbers: Points fully painted: 4457 Models fully painted: 132 Points repainted: 5467 Models repainted: 205 Total points: 9924 Total models: 337 After completing all the repaints, I managed to get some army shots of the Orks, which doesn't include the new Megaboss or the Bossbunker, but it's most everything else, about 26,000pts in new money: Morkers Morkers Dreadmob Gorkers Mercenaries and Misc. 2022 For 2022, I have a lot of projects on the burner including more Orks, a Cities of Sigmar project, and Tau. As usual, the Rogue Trader idea keeps percolating and collecting one kit at a time in its little, plastic container. Orks: 9x Killa Kans 3x Deffkoptas (also need to rebase

'Ardboss Deffnikk and His Bossbunka

The road to Doc Drillteef's successes are paved with the broken corpses of the Warbosses who think they're in charge of the Painboss's armies. The most recent of these is 'Ardboss Deffnikk who benefits from the warband's significant mechanical resoruces. Not only is Deffnikk a tough Ork in his own right, but his physiology has been juiced by the Doc's own ministrations. What's more, the boss's armour is massive that it has been crafted by none other than Big Mek Dreadnutz whose usual specialty is usually the construction of walkers.  The Warboss and his Bossbunker were a treat to paint. It was interesting to try a quartered scheme on an Ork, but why not with all that armour? The Bossbunker looks really great on the battlefield and I think you'll agree when you get one painted up in your army's colors.

New Edition, New Potential

The new Codex brought a bunch of new releases for Orks and that means I have a lot more work ahead of me. It was nice to have zero backlog on the Orks for a while, but that's how the hobby goes! Pictured are: Titanicus terrain Warzone Octarius Ork terrain 9x Killa Kans 3x Deffkoptas (also need to rebase the 6 I already have) 12x Squighog Riders 2x Nob on Smasha Squig 1x Beastboss on Squigosaur 30x Beast Snagga Boyz 10x Kommandos 20x Boyz  1x Megaboss I've already started working on the Ork terrain: And I've taken the time to rebase and do a little of refactoring on my 49 Stormboyz: The plan is to prioritize the Megaboss, then the terrain, and then one of the 10-model squads so that I can complete the White Dwarf Advent Calendar.

Kragnos

I recently painted Kragnos using Duncan's tutorial and I think he came out pretty great. The buddy I painted it for is doing his own basing, so I just gave it a quick drybrush for photography purposes.

Morker Repaints

Throughout 2021, I've been really stepping up the repaint work on the Morker side of my army. My Orks army has been a weird mix of colors that I originally did for unit designation, however the army didn't look very cohesive on the battlefield. There are better ways to do unit designation while maintaining a nice scheme, so I decided to make this big push to get everything repainted in a cohesive scheme and to my current skill level. Since most of the models already had yellow as one of their colors, the steps usually included: Re-color the red or orange as blue Add 2 highlights to the yellow Add 1 highlight to the green skin Reikland Flesh Shade on models that had originally been washed with a bad mix of craft paints Replace old basing style with new Re-ring the bases Clear coat I usually run these models as Deathskulls since my army's warlord uses Mad Doc Grotsnick's rules for Dok Drillteef. Also, the theme of the Deathskulls make sense for the lore of the army. I don

Dread Mob Dreads!

Despite having thousands of points in Orks, I've only ever owned a single Deff Dread. I decided that this year it was high time I had a proper Dread Mob and tag it as a #NewYearNewArmy. I'm adding several other units to this sub-army as well as doing some repaints which I'll talk about in a later post. The army was built using loads of different kits. I looked kind of like a serial killer while I was planning the builds. I had to be in Dad Jail to protect the innocent while I worked on the builds. I arranged the three units into distinct groups using their method of locomotion as a guide. The three built using Dunecrawler legs are in one unit, the three built with "chicken walker" legs are in another unit, and the three with "human" style locomotion are in a third unit. Chicken Walkers: Human Walkers: Quadrupeds: And here is the current status of my 2021 Hobby Bingo:
