Under Pressure

Image
Like many of you, I've got a ton of stuff still to do for Adepticon.  I have to finish building our display board, paint my Warkopta, and go through all the units in my lists and touch them up for appearance. Some units desperately need stronger highlights and I'm adding Armorcast muzzle flares to my Shoota Boyz units.  I also need to build an Aegis Defense Line that looks like a speaker stack. Update... it's so RED! Of course, I still have the titan project that has had more progress, but not nearly enough to make me feel like I'm getting out from under it any time soon which is rather demoralizing.  I have a free day between Adepticon and going back to work, so I think I'll use that day to try and finish the build on the first Titan. I may also have to skip Dominion Squad Jessie for my March Hobby Progress Challenge .  I just don't see how I can do it this week.  We'll see how the work on the display board goes.  If I finish ev...

Common Sense Rulings

Image credit My hat goes off to anyone who takes the 40k Community helm in both hands and steers through these troubled waters.  It's a lot of hard work and sacrifice to month after month and year after year devote precious time, capital, and health to support our community. This gratitude comes with an understanding of the difficulties in dealing with the vocal and often arrogantly opinionated web presence of 40k fans. A great many of us love going to events to meet up with far-flung friends and roll dice.  I'm far from a veteran at this sort of thing, but I'm already extremely stoked at the prospect of pulling up to at least a dozen tables at Adepticon only to throw my Greenskins into a hail of enemy fire from a bunch of new friends. Thank you for making this possible. There has been a lot of talk lately of how important it is for the 40k Community, going forward, to be more heavy-handed with the rules of the game. Let's face it, adjudicating someone else...

Flash Gitz Rock Band - TUSKA!

Image
Many in Ork society have heard the tales of the Warlord Tuska and his exploits into the Eye of Terror . In some circles he is not only revered, but even worshipped.  There have been many whispers about whether he may, someday, return from the Eye of Terror to bring the knowledge of what he learned there to the Orks of the Materium. The Ork Rocker band, "Tuska!" has, therefore, become quite popular among the fringes of Ultima Segmentum.  The Orks there flock by the millions to watch them perform on Ork-controlled worlds and Space Hulks.  Through this band, the Orks can one day dream of a Galaxy of perpetual warfare. There is something more devious at foot within the band's ranks, however.  Their manager, a red-skinned Grot named Toofgrubba is not what he appears to be.  Toofgrubba is, in reality, a Daemon in disguise who has aspirations for Princehood.  His plan is to get the band hooked on Warp Dust and bill them as an opening act for Slaaneshi meta...

My 2 Carls on the 2+ Re-Rollable

Image
Warning! Competitive gaming topic alert!  Hehe. There have been a great many ideas posed for dealing with some of the issues with Deathstars in 40k right now.  One of the main culprits of this is the re-rollable save.  This isn't everything that's difficult about competitive playe right now, but it's a big part of it. As an Ork player, I find the concept of getting rid of Battle Brothers to be rather compelling.  I know that a lot of folks don't like the concecpt of changing the rules of the game so fundamentally, though, and it really does kind of take something away from the game.  I do like the idea of being able to add some HQs to units and help out with psychic powers. As a thought experiment, let's go the other way and imagine if every army were Battle Brothers instead. What would happen? Well, every army could have a 2+ re-rollable of some variety. Almost every army, no matter the flavor, at the competitive level could be the same. How boring i...

Drillteef Batrep - Dirty Goblin Team Tournament: March 2014

Image
As usual, I had a truly wonderful time at the Dirty Goblin Team Tournament.  I went in with the plan to try out my Adepticon team list, but I ended up teaming up with Jacob who was bringing his nasty Chaos bike unit with the Juggerlord.  We decided that, since I was bringing the Nob Boar Riderz to try them out, I'd go all in. And I did! Behold! The Thousand Sons of the ApOrkalypse! 1000 Pts - Codex: Orks Roster - Team Nob Bikerz 1 Mad Dok Grotsnik , 160 pts 1 Warboss , 130 pts (Cybork Body; Warbike; Power Klaw; Warlord) 1 Nob Bikers , 630 pts (Count as Troop Troops; Cybork Body; Stikkbombs; Warbike)     1 Painboy (Cybork Body; Stikkbombs; Warbike)     1 Nobz (Warbike; Cybork Body; Stikkbombs; Waaagh! Banner; Power Klaw)     1 Nobz (Warbike; Bosspole; Cybork Body; Stikkbombs; Power Klaw; Shoota/Skorcha Kombi-weapon)     4 Nobz (Warbike; Cybork Body; Stikkbombs)     3 Nobz (...
